Radisson Blu Maldives is opening – get a HUGE overwater villa for 70k points!

Although not my cup of tea, Maldives is many people’s dream vacation. Given how ludicrous hotel prices can be in Maldives, people love to spend their points here, whether it is Hilton, Marriott or IHG. A new hotel is arriving to Maldives very soon, and that will be another great opportunity to use your points.

Today’s spotlight is on Radisson Blu Resort Maldives. As we can see from their website, the hotel now accepts reservations for July 15th onwards. Given the current climate, I’d say that’s a brave decision…

This hotel is around 115km from Male airport (MLE). Some previews from the official gallery:

The standard room category is Overwater Villa with Private Pool, measuring 220 square meters, accommodating up to 3 adults and one child. For a random date in November, the best flexible rate is almost $800 including all taxes and fees. Alternatively you can have it for 70,000 points plus around $20 tax.

Until June 30th, you can buy Radisson points at half price. That is $35 for every 10,000 points. It means that a one-night redemption for this villa costs less than $250, which is almost 70% off compared to the cash price!

As you can see from the screenshot, point stays come with free breakfast too. Being a Radisson Rewards member, you should also enjoy 5% – 20% off your F&B bills in the hotel – every little helps!

It’s strange that the hotel seems to have closed award night availability beyond November. According to Radisson’s t&c, all hotels follow the “last room availability” rule, which means standard rooms are always redeemable as long as they are for sale. That being said, we are talking about the most luxurious hotel in the entire chain, so rules may change. I won’t be surprised if one day it breaks the 70k redemption ceiling either.

Remember though, like many other Maldives hotels, you need to pay for a seaplane transfer to and from Male. A return transfer costs $450 per adult, which halves for children up to 11 years old. This is not cheap, but no more expensive than what you usually expect either.
