Priority Pass new joint venture with China’s Joyful Journey

In the latest news – Priority Pass’s parent company Collison recently established a joint venture with Joyful Journey, a service provider for transport-related products in China.

China used to be one of the weakest links of Priority Pass and I remember the days when my card was next to being useless at many Chinese airports. China’s travel market was mostly dominated by Dragonpass at that time.

Although Dragonpass is still going pretty strong, Priority Pass has put a great effort in expanding their network in China since 2021. They now work with much more lounges in the country, including some very small airports – the one at my hometown has just a couple of dozens of departures per day.

According to the press release, the join venture is adding almost 90 lounges to Priority Pass’s China network, which I believe will bring them very close to what Dragonpass offers. It is great news to those who travel frequently in the country.

Interestingly Joyful Journey also operates many business class lounges at the railway stations, and I’m curious whether they will be included too. Railway lounges however are much less substantial or necessary, so I don’t think it’s a very big deal.
