Avios has another pricing glitch! Last time it was Finnair’s Doha route making headlines, and today’s star is still Finnair – but this time it’s a much more interesting route.
Finnair is set to launch a new ultra-long-haul route from Helsinki to Melbourne starting October 26, 2026, with a stopover in Bangkok. This route is already bookable for award redemption on BA and Finnair’s websites.
Interestingly, pricing is the same as Helsinki – Bangkok, meaning the Bangkok – Melbourne leg is effectively free. Sample pricing is as follows:
- Economy: 30,000 + €98.39
- Premium Economy: 43,500 + €118.39
- Business: 62,500 + €173.39
Exact taxes vary slightly depending on the flight choice and direction, but they’re broadly similar. The business-class price is nothing short of absurd.
That said, a lot of people are clearly jumping on this already, and business-class award availability is running thin, so act fast if you need it. I’m not sure if makes a difference whether you book via BA or Finnair, as both allow you to cancel an award ticket for a small fee.
I reviewed Finnair’s business class not long ago, and the experience was excellent. Unfortunately, the booking window is very limited, only a handful of dates from late October to early December next year, Otherwise I’d be seriously tempted myself.
