There were rumours that changes were coming to IHG’s InterContinental Ambassador program. It is now confirmed by an internal memo:
- New price will kick in on October 2
- Cash price: $200 -> $225
- Point price: 40,000 -> 45,000
We are seeing a 12.5% increase in both payment methods.
Given that their membership fee hasn’t seen any change in so many years, I actually think the mark up is justified and IHG isn’t to blame. We are yet to see more details, but with such a moderate increase I doubt they’ll add more benefits to the Ambassador program in the meantime.
Remember that you can renew your membership 90 days in advance to lock the old price. But as we have until October to make the decision, I suggest to wait it out in case IHG launches a promotion meanwhile.
Although you can no longer extend your Diamond status by purchasing the Ambassador membership, the program itself is still well worth the fee if used wisely.
