We wrote about SAS’s status match recently, which has took many U-turns in a short while. They now have a dedicated web portal where you can submit your application. Accepted airlines are: British Airways, Lufthansa, Finnair and Turkish Airlines.
The reviewing process is half-automated. If your submitted status is from the two Star Alliance partners – Lufthansa and Turkish – your application will be approved automatically as their internal system can verify it immediately. You don’t need to submit any other supporting document.
Turkish Airlines has a status match / challenge offer where you can get a Gold status trial. If you are an elite member with an airline that isn’t accepted by SAS, you could try Turkish’s match first.
The promotion runs until August 30th which should give you enough time. However, you can no longer match the SAS status back to Lufthansa.
On the other hand, ITA Airways has also restarted their status match campaign finally, after a long hiatus.
If you have status with a qualifying airline, you can submit an application by August 19th and if approved, you will be granted ITA Volare status valid through 2025.
I matched to ITA Volare Executive, their top level, in 2021 and have not been downgraded since although I’ve never credited a single flight.
Funny enough – ITA Airways is going the opposite direction with SAS. It’s set to be acquired by Lufthansa and as a result highly likely to become a Star Alliance partner as soon as the end of this year.
