IHG and Hainan Airlines to launch reciprocal benefits

IHG and Hainan, a China-based airline, started a strategic partnership recently. Hainan even delivered a passenger plane in IHG’s livery.

IHG has just published a teaser on their official Wechat account revealing some further collaboration details to come. Most importantly, they mentioned reciprocal benefits for members from either program:

The image above suggests priority boarding, extra baggage allowance and lounge access with Hainan Airlines, which could match any of the three elite tiers of Hainan’s loyalty program – Fortune Wings.

Fortune Wings applies to Hainan and its many subsidiaries, including Tianjin, Capital, Urumqi and Hong Kong Airlines (not Cathay), to name a few. If they do match you to Silver or above, you get priority boarding and extra baggage allowance on Virgin Australia too.

Should Hainan’s membership be useful to you, I suggest you change your IHG’s account address to China now, as there might be a residency requirement should there be a status match offer. I also doubt the quota will last more than one day – think Marriott & Cathay Pacific’s offer last month…
