Two Accor-related updates today.
All Plus China
I haven’t talked about All Plus China for a while, but there are a couple of useful promotions worth mentioning.
First, the Basic Card (欢悦卡) sale, ending on 7 August:
- RMB 199 (normally RMB 399), which is the lowest price ever
- Includes 5 status nights
At less than half price, it’s especially worthwhile if you’re only a few nights short of Accor Platinum. You are effectively buying Accor status nights at the unit price of RMB 40 / ~$6, which is very cheap. Note that the combined bonus status nights you get from All Plus China and Accor Plus is capped at 50.
In addition to the status nights, the card includes:
- 1 × 40% off room voucher
- 2 × 30% off room vouchers
- 1 × late checkout voucher
- 2 × 50% off buffet vouchers
- 1 × 30% off dining voucher
And a separate promotion for the other two card tiers:
- Use a free night voucher by 30 September
- After completing the stay, receive an extra 50% off room voucher
- Premium Card (卓悦卡): up to 1 extra voucher
- Suprem Card (超悦卡): up to 2 extra vouchers
- If you hold multiple cards, the offer can stack
The second promotion may not be super useful as the free night voucher can only be redeemed in China.
Kenya Airways Status Match
I wrote about the Kenya Airways status match previously, and they’ve just updated the terms to include a new addition: Accor.
- Accor Gold or above can match to Kenya Airways Platinum
- Application fee: $299
- Status is valid for 12 months
- Residents of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Argentina are excluded
The threshold is surprisingly low. You can obtain Accor Gold simply by purchasing an Accor Plus or All Plus China membership, and in several countries American Express Platinum cards now also provide complimentary Accor Gold. There are reports however, of statusmatch.com requesting proof of stay history.
Both Kenya Airways Gold and Platinum map to SkyTeam Elite Plus, which means:
- free seat selection
- priority check-in
- priority boarding
- additional baggage allowance
- Fast Track security
- business lounge access (plus one guest)
The real sticking point is the fee. Paying $299 for a matched Platinum card definitely hurts. However, the Kenya Airways terms also state:
Elite members who fail to meet the requalification conditions will be downgraded, but not more than one level down at a time.
In other words, there is a soft landing policy. Looked at differently, you’re effectively paying $299 for two years of SkyTeam Elite Plus and one additional year of SkyTeam Elite. Framed that way, the value proposition starts to look much more attractive!
