Have you all managed to register for Marriott’s 5,000-point promotion? I checked out on Friday and the bonus points have already posted to my account.
Even more surprisingly, several readers have reported receiving the 5,000 points immediately after registering – before completing a stay at all. That’s certainly an unexpectedly generous interpretation of the promotion!
A couple of days ago I also wrote about Choice Privileges’ heavily discounted points sale. At the time, I mentioned last month’s devaluation in Japan, while noting that hotels in Tokyo Bay and outside Tokyo still offered some decent redemption opportunities.
Well… that didn’t last long. Choice has quietly increased award prices again:
- Comfort Suites Tokyo Bay – 30,000 points
- Three hotels in central Osaka – 20,000 points
- Comfort Hotel ERA Kobe Sannomiya – 20,000 points
- hotel around TAKAYAMA – 30,000 points
Honestly, this one leaves a rather bad taste. The timing is especially awkward given that Choice was actively selling points at one of its lowest-ever prices just days ago. If you’ve only just bought points, you almost feel like asking for a refund.
