Good use of Choice points in Australia

Choice Hotels has been a recurring topic on this blog for years, but I honestly didn’t expect to discover yet another hidden sweet spot. A reader pointed it out in the comments a couple of days ago: besides Japan and the Nordics, Choice also offers surprisingly good redemption value in Australia. So today, let’s take a look.

According to the official website of Choice Hotels, the group currently has around 140 hotels across Australia. Considering how vast and sparsely populated the country is, that’s actually quite an impressive footprint.

The main advantages of redeeming Choice points in Australia are:

  • Coverage across many major destinations including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Tasmania
  • Reasonable redemption pricing
  • Many properties allow direct redemption for two-bedroom or even three-bedroom apartments and suites

A few examples:

MainStay Suites Williamstown, Melbourne

Comfort Inn & Suites Goodearth, Perth

Quality Hotel Robertson Gardens, Brisbane

Comfort Inn The Pier, Tasmania

Outside the Nordic region, Choice Hotels generally focuses on the budget and midscale market, so don’t expect ultra-luxury resorts here. That said, many of these Australian apartment-style properties actually look like very solid value, especially for families or longer stays.
