Cathay Pacific’s end-of-the year promotion is back – Rewards in the Air – offering a good chance to earn a stash of bonus miles. The campaign runs until January 31, and by registering and completing tasks during the period, you can earn up to 6,900 bonus Miles:
- Register as a new user through the designated link and complete one mileage-earning or redemption action to receive 1,200 miles
- Earn 500 bonus miles by completing 1 miles transaction (Earn or Redemption)
- Earn 1,000 bonus miles by completing miles transactions in at least 2 categories
- Earn 2,000 bonus miles upon earning 20,000 miles or more
- Earn 2,000 bonus miles by redeeming 15,000 miles or more
- Earn 100 bonus miles by completing a check-in mission on the Asia Miles by Cathay app
- Earn 100 bonus miles by subscribing to all Cathay communication channels
The first task is for new users only, so existing users can earn a maximum of 5,700 miles. Note that Task 3 relies on categories – Cathay divides mileage-earning methods into six groups: Flights, Shopping, Holidays, Dining, Payment and Wellness.
Tasks 6 and 7 are essentially freebies if you don’t mind a few taps. Tasks 2 and 3 are also easy to complete, for example by transferring points from partners in two different categories.

- Travel: Marriott, IHG and Badazhou
- Payment: Amex and other partner credit cards
Here’s a simple sample strategy: transfer 1,000 Amex US/UK points and 3,000 Marriott points. That can get you 1,000 + 1,000 + 500 + 1,000 + 100 + 100 = 3,700 miles in total, which is quite nice.
If you happen to have earning or redemption needs, you can try for more tasks, and just pick whatever suits you. Remember that Cathay has another promotion running in parallel that stacks: until January 6, transferring points from two travel-category partners gets you an extra 1,000 miles.
