BA has started yet another sale, and you can explore with their low fare finder. Today we’ll focus on their premium economy deal, which you could take advantage for flying business class too,
The destinations whose headline price jump out are:
- New York – £625
- Doha – £674
- Beijing – 697
- Shanghai – £688
Availability is scarce for Beijing, only some dates in September and October. For the other three availability is much better.
London – Shanghai 18/01-08/02 (Chinese New Year period)
These are some great prices, especially to China and New York. You’ll earn 180 tier points for the round trip but not many Avios given they’ve gone revenue-based. If you don’t need the tier points it might be better to credit to BA’s partners instead, including say Qatar Airways which is also an Avios ally.
You can also benefit from this deal if flying business class (Club World), using BA’s Book and Upgrade with Avios feature. You basically purchase the premium economy ticket and upgrade it to business at the same time.
The all-in price for a Club World return ticket will look something like this:
- New York – £1244 + 40,000 / 48,000 Avios
- Doha – £780 + 40,000 / 48,000 Avios
- Beijing – £887 + 50,000 / 60,000 Avios
- Shanghai – £790 + 60,000 / 72,000 Avios
A quirkiness is that upgrading is cheaper at peak season than off-peak.
For New York there’s unfortunately a ridiculous upgrade supplement, but it’s still cheaper than an outright Club World redemption. For the other three destinations it might work out even better than using your companion voucher – plus you’ll earn some tier points and Avios back.
