A few days ago, I also came across a rather unusual app from the Lufthansa Group called Uptrip. The official description features one particularly intriguing keyword: NFT. I don’t remember when’s the last time I heard that word…
Putting the buzzwords aside, Uptrip is essentially a card-collecting game, which should sound familiar to most people.
You can collect cards by scanning Lufthansa Group boarding passes, visiting promotional desks at airports, playing mini-games in the app, or simply buying and trading cards with other players. Collect enough cards and you can redeem various rewards, although some rewards require specific cards rather than simply a certain number of them.
The easiest way to get cards is by scanning your boarding pass. You can also enter your booking details manually. For each flight segment, you’ll be shown four cards and can choose two of them.
After signing up for Uptrip, you can also add flights from the previous 12 months, although you’re limited to two past bookings only. It’s therefore worth choosing bookings with as many flight segments as possible, since the number of cards you receive is based on the number of segments.
The rewards are quite varied, and naturally, their value varies too. For example:
- 1 card for a draw to win a €100 Lufthansa voucher
- 5 cards for a Lufthansa Business Class Lounge voucher
- 50 cards for Lufthansa Frequent Traveller status
- 6 cards for a Wi-Fi voucher on intercontinental flights
- 5 cards for a €50 Eurowings voucher
- 8 cards for 20 status points + 20 qualifying points
As pointed out earlier, some rewards can only be redeemed with specific cards, so the number of cards required doesn’t necessarily reflect how difficult a reward is to obtain.
The rewards also change regularly. For example, the Miles and More website is currently advertising two free cards just for signing up, which can supposedly be used to redeem 500 miles, but I couldn’t actually find that reward in the app.
In any case, if you fly Lufthansa Group airlines from time to time (SWISS, Austrian Airlines, ITA Airways, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and more) it doesn’t hurt to have Uptrip installed and collect a few cards along the way.
