Continuing the Smart Traveller topic, they have recently added Shangri-La as a new transfer partner, with a conversion rate of 1,300 Smart Traveller points to 200 Shangri-La Circle points.
Shangri-La points have a fixed value of 300 points = US$20, which means this transfer route effectively gives each 1.2 cents per Smart Traveller point. That’s probably a little better than redeeming Smart Traveller points for gift cards or merchandise, and the lounge access awards are not very useful for most of us.
There’s also a launch promotion: until 31 October, transfer at least 6,500 Smart Traveller points (equivalent to 1,000 Shangri-La points) and you’ll receive two Shangri-La room upgrade vouchers.
Shangri-La upgrade vouchers are genuinely useful, but the problem is the rather high threshold this time. If you’re earning Smart Traveller points purely through complimentary lounge access, you’d need to visit 65 times just to accumulate enough points!
Since we’re talking about Shangri-La, here’s a quick look at its latest The Door to Elegance promotion.
- The first 15,000 people to register receive 15 points
- Browse “Taste of Shangri-La” Content Hub for 30 seconds to receive 5 points
- Like 5 posts in the “Taste of Shangri-La” Content Hub to receive another 5 points
- Book and complete a consecutive two-night stay to receive 300 points
- Book, pay and stay for 3 cumulative nights with Mastercard to receive 900 points plus a US$20 dining voucher
- Dine 3 times and pay with Mastercard to receive 500 points
The first task has already reached its registration limit, but the two “free” tasks are still available. Not much, but it’s still free points. As for the remaining tasks, if you already have a Shangri-La stay planned, they shouldn’t be particularly difficult to complete.
