Last year, Alaska Airlines took a page from Delta and started offering mileage bonuses to fans of the American football teams it sponsors. The promo is back again this year, and it’s time to “move” to the US and grab some free miles! Thanks to reader @SA for the tip.
There were five different teams participating last year, but so far only two have shown up this time. Not sure if the others are no longer sponsored. If you find more links, feel free to share.
In short, your Alaska Mileage Plan account address needs to be within a 75-mile radius of the team’s home stadium. Each promo page provides a list of eligible ZIP codes. For every goal the team scores this season, you’ll earn 100 miles. The miles will be credited after the season ends (seemingly around November).
Both teams today are based in San Diego, so no need to overthink it. The 75-mile coverage areas overlap quite a bit, so you can find ZIP codes that work for both on their respective promo pages, such as 92106 and 92122. Once you pick a ZIP code, just drop it into Google Maps and choose any random apartment address.
Last year, I picked a ZIP code that overlapped three teams and ended up earning 8,000 miles in total (credited in early December). So this year, you can probably expect around 5,000–6,000 miles if things go similarly. Go cheer these two teams on!
That’s about it. Once you’ve “moved” to a qualifying address, just register and wait for the miles to roll in. Alaska miles are quite useful anyway, and it’s free, so there’s no downside to picking up a few extra.
