After withdrawing from Hong Kong and Shanghai, Virgin Atlantic is finally set to return to East Asia at the end of March next year with a brand-new route to Seoul, South Korea. Tickets had briefly gone on sale earlier but were paused due to route approval issues. Now, sales have officially resumed.
Naturally, the main focus here is on award tickets. Virgin Atlantic introduced a dynamic award pricing system last year, and prices can fluctuate wildly: sometimes unbelievably cheap, other times absurdly expensive. Taxes and fees are also dynamic.
Perhaps because this is a brand-new route, there’s currently plentiful low-priced award availability, including upper class seats. You can check Virgin’s award calendar for exact pricing.
I snagged two tickets yesterday for my Easter travel next year, using my credit card voucher.
The £465 surcharge is painful, but the total cost is still within reason. It’s much cheaper to fly the other way around:
As of today, tickets are available through October 4, 2025. At the moment, there are no point purchase promotions, but you can transfer points from American Express, Chase, or Marriott Bonvoy – and Chase currently offers a 40% transfer bonus.
One last note: the Seoul route will operate with Virgin’s 1-1-1 herringbone layout, which is bad news.
