Cheap Flying Blue miles and Shangri-la points, half-price hotel deal

[Trip.com]

Trip.com’s mega sale or super sale seems to have evolved into a norm now that takes place almost every month. The June event is ongoing and there are some excellent promotions for those who are based in or travelling to Asia.

A potentially useful one on their Hong Kong site:

  • Starts 10am June 5, Hong Kong Time
  • 50% off a hotel booking in UK, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, USA, Canada and Australia
  • Discount is capped at 1,000 HKD (~£94)

Check the following sites too if you are interested in hotel, attraction ticket and eSIM offers in Asia:

[Ping An]

Ping An E-wallet has become increasingly a gem. They offer many point transfer options, most recently for a ludicrous Radisson sale in which some readers here have taken part.

Two new promotions have appeared, one for Flying Blue:

  • Offer period: 1 June to 30 June
  • Get 20% bonus when converting Ping An points to Flying Blue
  • Daily cap is 100,000 miles

The regular conversion ratio is (46+4.6):1 and it currently costs 960 CNY to buy half a million Ping An points. You pay roughly 81 CNY / €9.9 per 1,000 miles under this offer which is a pretty decent deal.

Another for Shangri-La:

  • Offer period: 3 June to 30 June
  • Get 30% bonus when converting Ping An points to Shangri-La
  • In addition, you’ll receive a room upgrade voucher
  • Minimum transfer is 50 points
  • Daily cap is 20,000 points

The regular conversion ratio is 260:1, so you’ll be paying 384 CNY / $53.3 per 1,000 points. Shangri-La point is worth a fixed 6.67 cents when spent on hotel stay or dining, so that’s around 20% off. The room upgrade voucher is also potentially valuable, although I don’t see any terms on how it works.

Remember that however, purchasing Ping An points is non-trivial involving two Chinese apps, so ideally someone who speaks Chinese would do it for you.
