[Fuel dump?] £220 Beijing – Spain return, giving Oneworld Sapphire status

A couple of months ago we wrote about Royal Air Maroc’s generous Status Booster offer, giving you Oneworld Sapphire or even Emerald status after only one return trip.

There’s an interesting recent development. As pointed out by @alvinwong226 on Threads, you can add an extra segment to the Beijing – Europe return to reduce the cost further.

An example for Madrid, which seems to be the cheapest route:

The third flight is BJA – ALG, operated by Air Algérie, which seems to have caused a “fuel dump”. As it’s the last segment of the entire itinerary you can safely “miss” it.

Other European destinations are possible too but dates seem to be quite limited. Here’s Paris:

Try using Google Flights to locate the low-fare dates first before searching on Skyscanner.

As we’ve discussed last time, you can pay €198 to buy Royal Air Maroc’s 3x Status Booster, and under that circumstance a return trip from Beijing to Europe in economy is enough to earn you Oneworld Sapphire status already. It is very likely the quickest and cheapest way nowadays, unless you qualify for a status match somewhere.

The fuel dump trick doesn’t work for the reverse. You can of course simply purchase a Madrid – Beijing return, which costs as low as €500 for the right dates.
