Here is something that started circulating yesterday. I wasn’t sure about writing it as the more publicised it is the riskier it gets, but well, I guess it’s down to each one’s own judgement.
Alaska Air has a fast track offer extended to those from University of Washington. You get Alaska MVP (Oneworld Ruby) immediately for 180 days, during which you can complete their flying challenge to achieve an even higher status.
Here is the hack: if you enter your personal email address, although an error message is displayed it doesn’t stop you from submitting the request.
You’ll then head to your mailbox to click the confirmation email, after which the upgrade should be reflected in your account.
Oneworld Ruby is the lowest elite tier so it doesn’t come with substantial benefits, but usually free seat selection, business class check-in and sometimes extra baggage allowance. I happen to have a few BA flights lined up in April so the seat selection perk is handy.
The upgrade was instant for me but more recent feedback suggested some accounts only get upgraded overnight. WARNING: historically Alaska has been quite aggressive auditing and closing accounts, so make sure you know what you are doing.
Once signed up how do you apply the status to existing bookings to allow seat selection?
