Excellent buy point deals from Alaska and Finnair

[Alaska Air]

A rare and excellent deal for buying Alaska Air miles – before November 15 you get 100% bonus when buying at least 10,000 miles from Hawaiian Airlines in one transaction, with tax factored in you’ll be paying 1.27 cents / 0.975p per mile.

Hawaiian miles isn’t useful, but the airline is being acquired by Alaska and the miles can be transferred to Alaska’s Mileage Plan program at a 1:1 ratio instantaneously – you are basically buying Alaska miles at a bargain price.

You can view Alaska’s redemption chart here, and search award tickets online without having an account. They eliminated a lot of partner sweet spots when they revamped the program one or two years ago, but there are still quite a few worthwhile redemption options. For example (economy / business):

  • CX Hong Kong – Beijing: 7,500 miles / 15,000 miles
  • JL Tokyo – Beijing: 7,500 miles / 15,000 miles
  • BA London – Dubai: 22,500 miles / 45,000 miles
  • LA New York – Lima: 175,00 miles / 35,000 miles

There are pretty good deals here and there especially given BA is continuously devaluing. Note that however these are all “starting at” prices and AS might increase the prices without notice as well.

[Finnair]

If you want Avios, Finnair is running a very good promotion. Until November 20, you’ll get a discount when buying Avios:

  • 5,000 – 19,000: 35% off
  • 20,000 – 49,000: 40% off
  • 50,000 – 74,000: 45% off
  • 75,000 – 200,000: 50% off

With 50% off you are paying 1.05 euro cents / 0.87p per Avios, which is an excellent chance to top up your account. Remember that you can move Avios freely between AY / BA / IB / QR accounts, and I’ve written a guide on Avios previously.
