Reserve a restaurant via OpenTable and earn IHG points

You may have heard of OpenTable – it is a restaurant reservation service that collaborates with many restaurants globally. I’ve used it once many years ago.

As an incentive, OpenTable offers you some reward points when you make a reservation and attend, which you can exchange for things like money-off coupons. It has however, also tied up with IHG so that you can earn IHG points instead.

IHG’s landing page for this offer is here. This is part of IHG’s Trip Extras scheme that focuses on non-hotel travel services including dining, car rental and other tourist packages.

There are many participating restaurants in the UK. Here’s a snapshot of them near Leicester Square:

You earn 500 points for your first booking, and 150 points afterwards. It is not much, but still a nice add-on if you’re going to dine anyway. According to some reports on the internet late last year, these points are also elite qualifying, so could be handy if you are a few points short to reach IHG elite status and don’t have stays planed.

Remember though, that the restaurant will need to confirm your OpenTable booking for you to earn points, so no-shows won’t work.
