Royal Jordanian’s very generous hotel status match offer is back!
In fact, their status match is almost a permanent program, though the rules change from time to time. The details of this round are as follows:
- Apply by November 7th
- UK & EU residents only
- Eligible hotel elite statuses can be matched to Silver or Gold (oneworld Ruby or Sapphire)
- Application Fee: $49 or $149
- Matched status is valid for one year
Looking through the terms, the main hurdle is the residency requirement. You must also pay the application fee using a bank card issued in the UK or Europe. If proof of residence is requested, the only accepted documents appear to be a local passport or driving licence, so the verification process is fairly strict.
Most people will naturally be aiming for Gold, and the eligibility requirements are actually quite low. Even if you only qualify for Silver, you can apparently pay the $249 “upgrade fee” to get Gold.
Here are the minimum hotel status requirements for a direct match to Gold:
- Accor: Gold
- Hilton: Gold
- Hyatt: Explorist
- IHG: Gold
- Marriott: Gold
- GHA: Platinum
The requirements are practically non-existent! You can buy Accor Plus Explorer (there’s currently a Double Eleven promotion), purchase IHG Ambassador membership (there’s a current promotion), get a Hilton co-branded credit card, or even subscribe to Business Traveller magazine to obtain GHA status.
Of course, most of our readers probably already hold at least one of these hotel elite statuses anyway.
Royal Jordanian Gold is equivalent to oneworld Sapphire. When flying with airlines such as Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, British Airways, American Airlines and Qatar Airways, you’ll enjoy benefits including free seat selection, additional baggage allowance, priority check-in, priority boarding and access to business class lounges.
Compared with the promotion in March this year, the latest offer has not only lowered the eligibility requirements but also reduced the application fees. Is Royal Jordanian’s generosity going to cause a few headaches for its Oneworld partners?
To be honest, even I’m quite tempted this time!
