Finnair has just launched a new promotion:
- Selected routes only
- Booking window: 18–27 August
- Travel window: 18 August 2026–31 March 2027
- All cabins and both one-way and return tickets are eligible
- No restriction on booking channel
- Earn double Avios and Tier Points (TP)
Participating European destinations include London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, Paris, Frankfurt, Berlin, Amsterdam, Geneva, Rome, Budapest, Prague and more.
Long-haul destinations include Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, Singapore, Melbourne, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago.
There are sale fares to these destinations, but you don’t actually need to book one of the promotional fares to trigger the double rewards. Ancillary spending such as seat selection and baggage should also earn double Avios and TP as well as long as the flight booking is eligible.
The promotion terms aren’t particularly clear, but my understanding is that you don’t necessarily need to start your journey in Helsinki, and connecting itineraries should also qualify.
Finnair’s Avios and TP earnings are based on the ticket price and your status. A basic member earns 6 Avios and 6 TP per euro spent, while top-tier Platinum Lumo members earn 10 Avios and 10 TP per euro.
Taking Finnair Gold (oneworld Sapphire) as an example, you need 45,000 TP to qualify. Starting from zero, this promotion would therefore require €3,750 in eligible spending. For Platinum (oneworld Emerald), the requirement is 80,000 TP, meaning around €6,667 in spending.
If you already hold Finnair elite status, retaining or upgrading your tier becomes considerably easier. Within the Avios ecosystem, Finnair’s status requirements are relatively reasonable, so if the right fares and routes line up, this promotion could be a pretty good opportunity for a status run.
