IHG: half-price points sale, 15% off new hotels

Some IHG news today.

Points Sale

IHG’s familiar points sale is back once again. Buy at least 40,000 points by 17 August and you’ll receive a 100% bonus, effectively paying half price. You can purchase up to 200,000 points before the bonus, bringing the usual price down 0.5c or 0.37p per point.

The promotion may be targeted, and the minimum purchase required for the full bonus appears to vary between members. Even if your account qualifies at a lower threshold, you’ll still need to buy at least 26,000 points to achieve the lowest effective price.

IHG points continue to hold their value reasonably well, so it’s worth stocking up if you have a redemption in mind.

New Hotels

In the meantime, IHG has also refreshed its “new hotels” redemption promotion. Redeem points by 31 January, 2027 at participating new or newly renovated hotels and you’ll receive a 15% discount.

Some worthwhile mentions:

  • ANA Crowne Plaza Chiryu, Japan
  • voco Kuching, Malaysia
  • Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai, China
  • Hotel Indigo Paris – Opéra, France
  • Vignette Collection The Venice Times, Italy
  • Kimpton Quinta da Marinha, Portugal
  • Ruby Frida Hotel Stockholm, Sweden
  • Ruby Mimi Hotel Zurich, Switzerland
  • InterContinental Grand Ankara, Türkiye

Ruby continues its rapid expansion across Europe, although I’m still waiting for full IHG elite benefits to catch up. Another property worth noting is The Venice Times, which has joined the Vignette Collection. Hotels on Venice’s main island are never plentiful, so it’s nice to have another redemption option.
