You have probably heard of Klarna, whose main business revolves around buy-now-pay-later instalment services, and it frequently appears as a payment option at checkout on many websites. We occasionally mention it on the blog because it sometimes runs discounted gift card promotions, and picking up cheaper gift cards for merchants like Uber or Deliveroo can be a decent little money-saving trick.
What surprised me, though, is that Klarna apparently also has its own paid membership programme, split into four tiers, offering perks such as cashback and exclusive discounts.
The reason it’s relevant today is because Klarna has partnered with SAS EuroBonus for a limited-time promotion:
- Valid until 17 June
- Subscribe to Premium and receive 10,000 points
- Subscribe to Max and receive 20,000 points
- Points will post after two months
The promotion appears to be available globally. On the UK version, Premium costs £19.99 per month, while Max costs £44.99 per month, and pricing in other countries is probably fairly similar.
Even ignoring everything else, this effectively means buying SAS points at 0.4p or 0.45p, which is exceptionally cheap, especially considering how few opportunities there usually are to acquire SAS points in the first place.
Redeeming SAS points on their own flights can actually offer very good value. Long-haul business class awards, for example, cost just 60,000 points one-way with no fuel surcharges.
Some of the more interesting Premium benefits include:
- A metal card
- ClassPass membership (10 credits per month)
- Travel insurance
- GHA Platinum status
Max adds:
- Unlimited airport lounge access via LoungeKey
- GHA Titanium status
As for Klarna’s own perks like cashback and shopping benefits, I honestly don’t know enough about them to comment.
Overall, though, this promotion already looks attractive purely as a cheap way to buy SAS points. Throw in complimentary GHA status and a couple of months of unlimited LoungeKey access, and it becomes even more appealing.
