Finnair Avios and Accor buy points offer

Finnair

Finnair is selling Avios again, worth a look if you need to top up. Until 30 March, tiered discounts apply:

  • 5,000–19,000 Avios: 25% off
  • 20,000–49,000 Avios: 30% off
  • 50,000–84,000 Avios: 35% off
  • 85,000+ Avios: 40% off

There’s a noticeable difference depending on the currency you choose, and paying in Japanese yen is cheaper. For example, 400,800 JPY gets you 200,000 Avios, which works out to about 0.94p per point. That’s quite a solid price, so don’t forget to switch the currency.

As part of the Avios ecosystem, Finnair Avios can be freely transferred to programmes like British Airways and Qatar Airways.

Accor

After a long quiet period, Ping An E-wallet finally has a promotion again: before 30 March, you’ll get a 50% bonus when converting to Accor points, with a daily cap of 52,000 points.

The usual conversion rate from Ping An is 95:1 (plus a 10% fee). Based on current Taobao pricing (around CNY 938 for 500,000 points), the effective cost comes to about CNY 1,307 per 10,000 Accor points.

Accor points have a fixed value, normally €200 per 10,000 points, so you’re effectively buying at around an 18% discount. Not that attractive compared to promotions like All Signature (especially its Black Friday deals), but one key advantage is that you can buy in large volumes, unlike the monthly limits of All Signature.

So it may still be worth considering if you have a specific use in mind. Personally, I have spent quite a lot of points on their Limitless Experiences.
