Last month I wrote a guide on Flying Blue miles, where I had a bit of a rant about their dual-track mileage expiry policy: only miles earned from flights could extend the validity of your entire balance, while other account activities would only partially reset it.
According to an email they sent out recently, they’ve finally seen the light:
From May 4, every qualifying activity, such as booking a flight, reserving a hotel, renting a car, or shopping with a partner, will refresh your entire balance and extend the validity of all your Miles to 24 months. No more tracking multiple expiration dates. No more unexpected Miles expiring. Just one simple and transparent rule that puts you in control.
This new rule will also apply to miles earned before May 4.
So at long last, we no longer have to worry about Flying Blue miles expiring. If I remember correctly, Lufthansa is the only one standing which has very harsh expiry rules.
