Marriott and United Airlines have had a longstanding partnership, with some reciprocal elite benefits between the two. For example, Marriott Titanium members can match directly to United’s Premier Silver status.
Back in 2023, they even ran a limited-time promotion offering double rewards – and now, that promo is finally back! Be sure to sign up if you’re eligible.
The campaign is called Dual Currency, and to participate, you need to be enrolled in the Marriott-United RewardsPlus program, which means meeting one of the following conditions:
- Marriott Titanium or Ambassador Elite
- United Premier Gold, Platinum, or 1K
You’ll need to link your Marriott Bonvoy and United MileagePlus accounts (if you haven’t already). Once you’ve done that, here’s what you’ll earn:
- 500 United miles for every eligible Marriott hotel stay
- 750 Marriott Bonvoy points for every eligible United flight
- And if you complete at least one stay and one flight during the promo period, you’ll receive a bonus of 1,000 United miles and 1,500 Marriott points
To qualify, both your flight and hotel stay must be completed by August 31, and only paid stays and paid flights count: award flights and points redemptions don’t trigger the bonuses.
There’s no need to change your earning preference in either program. The bonus miles and points will be credited automatically. In fact, if you switch your Marriott earning preference to United miles, you will actually forfeit the bonus.
The rules are almost identical to the last round of this promo, and the value is still quite decent. Most of us might not be flying United anytime soon, but we’ll likely have a few Marriott stays in the next couple of months, so it’s a good opportunity to pick up some United miles.
Unfortunately United miles have been heavily and continuously devalued over the last three years or so, but you may still accumulate enough miles for a short-haul redemption some day.
