More Virgin business award “sale”: South America – Europe and beyond for 42k points

We wrote about a pricing oddity in Virgin’s award system last year, where flights between Germany and South America cost only 42,000 points per way in business class, a great redemption especially for Brazil and Peru departures.

The same reader @ZZ has found more similar deals:

  • Operating carrier: KLM
  • Three destinations: Aruba AUA / Bonaire BON / Paramaribo PBM
  • One-way business class from / to Europe for 42,000 points

The advantage is you don’t have to depart from or finish in Germany.

The surcharge however remains pretty hefty at $500+, and even worse if you fly from the UK. The itinerary stretches to as far as Turkey:

Or even better, to the Middle East or Africa.

Unfortunately the surcharge increases accordingly to $1,000+, making it much less appealing a deal.

On a relevant note, Virgin Atlantic just launched up to 70% bonus for purchasing their points. To get the highest bonus you must buy at least 125,000 points and the unit price becomes 89p per point, which is quite good.

Annoyingly Virgin has reverted the online booking feature for many of their partners, such as Korean Air, China Airlines and Air Europa. The online chat agents also stopped process new bookings lately, making booking partner award tickets rather frustrating.
