Behold – a positive change to Marriott’s member benefits might be coming soon. The following screenshot has been circulating in popularity on China’s social media today.
I don’t know the source of this screenshot. The format does look very credible and it may come from an internal memo. We’ll find out if it’s true on May 13.
There are three changes to the room upgrade benefits:
- The phrasing “to the best available room” is removed
- Suite upgrade at Ritz Carlton is extended to Platinum members
- Upgrade with club access at Ritz Carlton is no longer explicitly excluded
The first change sounds negative, but in reality I don’t think it’s ever enforced and best available is pretty much down to the interpretation of the individual hotel.
The next two changes are good news, especially if Ritz Carlton hotels start being more generous with club lounge access. Such things are always going to be at the hotels’ discretion though, so I won’t have my hopes high.
