More and more airlines are offering status match opportunities recently, which has become a new phenomenon. For some of them (Royal Jordanian) it appears to be a new revenue stream, whereas for others it’s more of a recruitment effort after an organisational shake-up (SAS).
Honestly, I didn’t expect budget airlines to follow the trend as well, after all most of them barely have any loyalty program to start with. But here we are, Norwegian just launched a status match promotion.
- Deadline unknown
- For SAS Eurobonus Gold and Diamond members only
- Once approved, you receive Norwegian Rewards Priority status, valid for 60 days
- During the 60 days, book and fly twice to enjoy the status for a full year
Note that only flights booked after you’ve received the status trial will receive benefits, and count for the challenge.
Main benefits of the Priority status are:
- Free seat selection
- Free baggage allowance (carry-on and check-in)
- Fast track (select airports only)
- Priority boarding
- Free hot drink on board
- More points
- Priority customer service
The list is quite impressive, almost comparable to a full-service airline’s loyalty program.
Unlike easyJet and Ryanair, Norwegian’s hubs are almost all in Northern Europe, so you are unlikely to fly them unless travelling to Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The benefits are pretty good and the challenge is easy, but the trial window is quite short so only apply when you have travel plans.
