IHG
IHG’s points sale is back again: until November 5, you can get a 100% bonus when purchasing at least 5,000 points, effectively cutting the price in half. You can purchase up to 200,000 points, excluding the bonus; after the bonus, the effective cost remains the familiar 0.5c / 0.375p per point.
I’m not sure whether this is targeted, and the threshold for receiving the 100% bonus may vary from person to person. Note that even if your bonus threshold is lower, you still need to purchase at least 26,000 points to get the lowest price.
IHG points are still holding their value reasonably well, so if you have a specific use in mind, it may be worth buying some. By the way, if you took part in the previous flash sale, it turns out that the additional 3,500-point bonus can be earned repeatedly. Those who went all in are in luck!
Meanwhile, the regular Destination Deal has also been refreshed:
- Booking window: 27 October to 1 November
- Stay window: 30 October to 13 December
- Up to 30% off participating hotels worldwide
- Must book at least three days in advance
- Free cancellation up to seven days before arrival
The English offer page hasn’t updated yet but the Chinese one has. Since bookings remain cancellable up to seven days before arrival, there’s a decent amount of flexibility as well. Definitely worth considering if you’re interested.
GHA
GHA is also selling points: until November 19, you can purchase GHA D$ at a 15% discount, with a purchase limit of 5,000 D$ and a two-year validity period.
GHA D$ is about as straightforward as loyalty currencies get: 1 D$ is worth $1 when redeemed, so the 15% discount is a genuine saving. Just keep an eye on the expiry date and don’t buy more than you can use.
