Brazil has been very hot on China’s social media, as they became the latest country that’s going to issue a visa waiver to Chinese citizens. As a side note, there also happens to be a relevant status match promotion.
The airline in question is Azul, a Brazilian airline. The promotion page is here.
- Airline accepted: United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, LATAM, GOL and Star Alliance
- Match available up to Diamond status
- Status valid for 180 days; completing the challenge during this period extends validity
- One match allowed every 365 days
- Free to match
Azul has three elite tiers: Topaz, Sapphire, and Diamond. Star Alliance Gold members can be matched to Sapphire, with benefits including free seat selection, free flight change, two checked bags and two Espaço Azul upgrade vouchers.
Delta Diamond, American Airlines Executive Platinum, and United Premier 1K members can be matched to Diamond, which adds priority check-in and boarding, unlimited Espaço Azul upgrades, and access to business lounges.
Azul is not part of any airline alliance. For Diamond members, the only benefit on partner airlines is when flying United, where you receive priority check-in/boarding and additional checked baggage. As for the challenge itself, the exact requirements aren’t clearly stated – data points online suggest completing either three or five flights.
Azul’s main hub is in São Paulo, with a network covering destinations across Brazil. Its long-haul routes include Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, Porto, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale.
One more thing: if you plan to fly Azul, remember to link your Accor Live Limitless account — flights can earn both Azul miles and Accor points. If you manage to match to Azul Diamond, you’ll also receive Accor Silver status automatically, though that’s not particularly useful.
It’s a relatively niche airline, and most people probably won’t have much use for it, so this is just a brief mention. But if you’re genuinely planning a deeper trip to / within Brazil, there’s a good chance you’ll fly Azul. Matching to an elite tier at least gets you free seat selection and checked baggage, which makes it worth taking advantage of.
