Final week: match Lufthansa Senator to Oneworld Emerald

I mentioned American Airlines elevated status match promotion back in late September. American Airlines has long offered status match and challenge programs, but in the elevated version, employees of selected companies who apply by October 31 can receive a higher-tier match. The matched status is valid for four months, and if you earn enough Loyalty Points during that period, it’ll be extended through the end of March 2027.

Although this enhancement didn’t change things dramatically, the unexpected twist came from Lufthansa’s status match: Lufthansa Senator members can directly match to Platinum Pro, which corresponds to Oneworld Emerald!

I wouldn’t bother if it were just Sapphire, but Emerald is definitely tempting even for only four months. Chances are high that I’ll a few times in the next months, and being able to access BA or Cathay’s First Class lounge would be nice.

I quickly filled out the form, submitted my Lufthansa card image, and the upgrade was approved the next day.

The main hurdle is that you must have a qualifying corporate email. Typically, large U.S. companies should be eligible; from what I heard some (U.S.) universities work too.

To retain the status, you’ll need to earn 50,000 Loyalty Points within four months, which isn’t easy unless you hold one of their cobranded credit cards.
