Lufthansa Group’s acquisition of ITA Airways is still in full swing. Air France–KLM launched a new (paid) campaign just a couple of days ago to poach ITA members, and today the long-awaited Lufthansa status match has finally arrived!
- ITA Plus → Lufthansa Frequent Traveller (Silver)
- ITA Premium / Executive → Lufthansa Senator (Gold)
- No fees required
- Status valid until February 2027 upon successful match
ITA Airways had very generous status match and extension campaigns in the past, and many readers probably already have an ITA Premium or Executive card, and this Lufthansa match has been highly anticipated.
Lufthansa Senator equals Star Alliance Gold, which means perks across the alliance (Lufthansa Group, Air China, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, ANA, Turkish Airlines, United and Air Canada etc.), including priority check-in and boarding, extra baggage allowance, fast-track security and business-class lounge access.
The best part: it’s free. The tricky part: although there’s no country restriction mentioned in the T&Cs it might be in place. When I first selected United Kingdom it threw an error whereas switching to Italy worked. Just now I tried again and United Kingdom went through fine, but China still doesn’t.
All you need to do is enter your membership details, upload either a photo of your ITA card or a screenshot from the ITA website, and wait.
They say results come out within ten business days. Fingers crossed for my long-lost Star Alliance Gold card and best luck to you all!
