How to save your Amex Platinum dining credit from expiring

The Amex Platinum card issued in several countries, such as UK, Germany and Singapore, has a dining benefit reimbursing your bill at local and global restaurants. The UK one works this way:

  • £100 credit for UK restaurants every six months
  • £100 credit for foreign restaurants every six months

So if you haven’t used them already, the £200 credit will expire soon on June 30. Make your reservation now and remember there are offers that could be stacked:

  • Amex Dining 10% back offer
  • First Table
  • BA shopping portal

The Ivy Group happens to be running a £20 discount promotion till the end of this month, should you be interested.

If you can’t find time to dine out, you can always purchase a gift card at the restaurant. Note that it must be in person though as online purchase usually doesn’t count. There might be an exception – I heard anecdotally that buying gift card online from Germany’s Block House could also trigger the offer, but I cannot confirm it.

There’s another trick for the foreign credit, due to how it works in Japan. You make prepaid reservations on the Pocket Concierge portal – the reservation has a date of course, but can be modified later. It’s useful for those who have travel plans to Japan in the near future.
