Choice and GHA buy points offer, Melia double Avios

[GHA]

GHA seems to have got hooked after starting to sell points not that long ago. As you can see here, you’ll get 15% discount when purchasing their D$ by June 19.

Once purchased the D$ is valid for two years. D$ is used like cash (US dollar) when setting the bill at a participating GHA hotel, so it makes sense if you have imminent stays with them.

[Choice]

Also doing a point sale is Choice: get 30% off when you buy at least 18,000 points in one transaction by June 20. You pay 0.721c / 0.535p per point under the discount, not the very best but still decent I reckon.

They’ve also brought back their classic 8,000-point promotion lately, where you can earn up to 8,000 bonus points if staying twice by September 2. According to the terms, the eventual number depends on your bill but you are guaranteed to earn at least 5,000 bonus points from the two stays.

I understand that many of us may never set foot on a Choice hotel, but if you ever visit Japan they offer many good value-for-money options in this country which can also trigger this promotion.

[Melia]

Last but not least, Iberia has partnered with Melia for this interesting promotion:

  • Book by Jun 8
  • Stay by September 30
  • Earn double Avios when staying at Melia hotels

To earn Avios, you need to set Iberia as your preferred earning partner in your Melia account. After your hotel stay Melia points will still credit to your account but they’ll transfer to Iberia immediately. The regular 10:3 ratio is already rather fair, and it’s now doubled to 10:6.

Assuming you have Melia Gold status from Amex Platinum and spend €500 on your hotel stay, excluding taxes. You earn 500 * 13 = 6,500 Melia points which is then exchanged to 3,900 Avios. Even better, you should get 390 Iberia Elite Points as well.

Sadly, I’ve already done a couple of test point transfer from Melia to Iberia directly. It’s eligible for neither the double bonus nor elite points.
