Interesting news – SAS and Scandic Hotels have announced a strategic partnership and members will soon be able to enjoy reciprocal benefits in the new era. If you have been following us you should have heard of Scandic from the Finnair hotel deals.
Although it’s too early to know any details, they have made it clear that, status match between the two programs will become available in the first quarter of 2025.
As an initial phase, status matching between EuroBonus and Scandic Friends, as well as a streamlined point conversion process, will be introduced in the first quarter of 2025.
SAS Eurobonus has four membership tiers and Scandic Friends, hold tight, has seven. We don’t know how the match will work, but I assume high-level Scandic Friends will be granted SAS Gold or Silver. Even if they only give away Silver status, it’s still Skyteam Elite which gets you priority check-in / boarding and additional baggage allowance with for example Delta, Virgin Atlantic, Air France and KLM.
It means that, if we can somehow obtain Scandic Friends elite status today, it will soon become Skyteam Elite or even Elite Plus. I read on Status Matcher of a recent Scandic status match data point and decided to give it a try myself.
I created a Scandic account and emailed a status match request to [email protected], including my name, account number and screenshots of my hotel cards. Strangely I still cannot log in to my account as of now but I received my account number in a welcome email.
The next morning I received a response from them, asking a few questions before they could consider my application. Questions include what hotels I stay with, which memberships I have, how many nights I stay in a year and anticipate to stay at Scandic etc.
And the next morning I received an approval email from them:
Thank you for your reply! We are able to offer you a upgrade to “Dear Friend” (level 4)! If this sounds good to you, please return to us and we will look further into upgrade your membership in Scandic Friends!
They are willing to grant me an upgrade to Level 4, which comes with honestly very limited benefits and is somewhat on a par with say IHG Gold. From what I see even SAS Silver may be a stretch when the match opens.
The Scandic Friends status match is worth going for if you think Skyteam status is of any value. You might want to be generous with numbers when answering the questions: I said I expected to stay 30 nights at Scandic in the next year.
Hi, Kai. I am residing in Indonesia.
Do you think I can join this status match? Currently, I only hold Accor Platinum Member or GHA Titanium Member.
Please advise
Don’t think there’s any residence requirement so yes, always worth a try
Ok, Kai. Thanks for your advice 👍
I received this reply from them when i requested a match today. So weird. Which card will be a brands based in the Nordic?
Thank you for contacting us!
We are not able to match with brands based outside the Nordics and as such cannot meet your request.
However, we of course still hope to see you at our hotels, and you will start reaching higher levels by earning points!
Looks like they don’t accept Radisson. Main brands like Hilton Marriott Best Western are fine
I was using my hilton honor to match it. Would you suggest i challenge their decision or apply again using another account?
I used the Hilton Honor diamond at first but they denied it saying that Hilton is not based in Nordic, now i sent them a reply to ask them if Radisson qualify as it is originated in nordic.
