Marriott Bonvoy has recruited another airline, Air Canada, into their reciprocal programs.
You can view more details here.
- Marriott Ambassador and Titanium members receive Aeroplan 25K elite status
- Aeroplan Super Elite, 75K and 50K members receive Marriott Gold status
- Aeroplan elite members can transfer points to Marriott at a 1:1 ratio
From what I understand it’s not a one-time offer like with Singapore Airlines. As long as you’ve maintained your Marriott status, your Aeroplan 25K status won’t expire, like with United. I linked my accounts and received the 25K upgrade immediately:
25K gives you the following benefits when flying Air Canada:
- Complimentary preferred seat when checking in
- 2 complimentary checked bags
- Priority check-in
- Priority boarding
You’ll also have access to the priority service line, so it should be easier if you need to call them to for example change your ticket. Aeroplan is great in terms of redeeming partner awards, so it might come handy for me one day.
Aeroplan 25K is Star Alliance Silver outside Air Canada, which unfortunately is next to nothing when you fly another airline.
If you are in a position to applying for US credit cards, I saw some interesting discussions (the thread is in Chinese). It appears that if you get the Chase Aeroplan card after having done the 25K match, you’ll be upgraded to 35K directly. And then you can spend $50K in a calendar year to upgrade to 50K (Star Alliance Gold).
