Save £££ on Avios tickets to Egypt and Jordan

This is interesting – if you want to redeem BA’s Avios ticket between London and Egypt / Jordan / Israel, you might be notably better off with an account address outside the UK.

Here’s some background: British Airways have a handful of medium-haul destinations that are outside Europe but still operated by the (pathetic) narrow-body aircrafts, e.g. Cairo, Hurghada, Amman and Tel Aviv. Although none of them are in Europe, their cabins follow the same Euro Traveller and Club Europe convention.

If you are looking to book a reward flight from/to these destinations, a one-way redemption in economy and business will have £40.5 and £ 102.5 in fees respectively, with the Most Avios Least Money option.

However, for those with an account address outside UK, the ticket will be priced in USD and significantly cheaper, as flagged by our reader @Dzzz.

He successfully booked the ticket at the shown price so it’s not a display error. It seems that such medium-haul destinations are treated like Europe when fees are calculated, but for USD only.

For a couple’s return flight in business class, being able to pay USD will save you more than £300! Warning: changing your account address may have complications, especially if you hold the BA Amex card as I heard your Avios might not deposit.

That is a great tip. Changed my address to Europe and booked 2 returns in economy from LHR to Cairo for 43000 avios and 96 Euro’s.
