Despite of being one the largest hotel groups in the world, Accor is somewhat an outsider for frequent travellers in Europe due to the lack of benefits and messiness of the program. It is however much more popular in Asia – so popular that they have a special paid program called Accor Plus for the market.
You basically pay an annual fee to join the program, and Accor Plus gives you special benefits for hotels in Asia Pacific. What’s less known is, Accor Plus can be used to extend your Accor Platinum status!
Here’s how it works: once you’ve bought a new Accor Plus membership, it is valid for 12 months during which your Accor membership tier is “frozen”. For example, say that you stayed 60 nights in 2023 and thus have Platinum through Dec 2024, if you buy Accor Plus in Dec 2024 your Platinum will be extended through Dec 2025 no matter what.
Rings a bell? InterContinental Ambassador used to work the same way to extend IHG status, but that loophole is closed. Note that only buying a new Accor Plus membership works, renewal doesn’t.
Accor Plus offers very good perks already, including free night voucher, half-price dining and regular 50%-off hot deals, with the status extension “bug” as an icing on the cake. Note that however:
- You cannot combine Accor Plus with All Plus Ibis or Voyageur
- Accor Plus has a totally different CRM system – Accor Plus, instead of Accor, will deal with all your queries and complaints, and that can be a pain sometimes (yes, even more painful than with Accor!)
