Amazing 60%-off Iberia award sale!

Not sure why it’s not caused any stir so far, but I received an email from Iberia yesterday about a new promotion:

• Book between September 4 and 11
• Travel between October 1 and December 4
• Up to 60% off award (Avios) tickets
• All Iberia routes (including Iberia Express and Air Nostrum) are eligible

Iberia does run such promotions habitually but they are usually targeted. There was a 40%-off version back in June which was made public. I asked around and many others could see the discounted rate too so I assume it is accessible to everyone.

The email suggests it applies to all routes but I can’t get it to work for Tokyo or Buenos Aires, not sure if it’s an IT error or something. Iberia went through a devaluation in May but it was pretty minor, and up to 60% discount is just incredible!

London – Madrid gets discounted by 30% and Basic Economy / Business ticket will cost 4,550 Avios / 11,550 Avios respectively.

Note that Basic fare doesn’t include check-in allowance and is non-refundable.

The long-haul routes are much more interesting and they are genuinely reduced by 60%. Iberia flies to the Americas, Dakar, Doha and Tokyo.

Here are the off-peak pricing in business class for certain routes. Doha: 16,200 Avios (New York should be in the same zone but I find zero availability.)

Dallas / Caracas: 20,200 Avios

Unfortunately BA’s Combine Avios feature is temporarily disabled due to increasing fraudulent activities. If you don’t have enough Avios in your Iberia account, you can still transfer from say American Express or Marriott Bonvoy, the risk being they don’t arrive in time.
