Cathay’s year-end promotion: earn 5,500 miles and vouchers

Cathay’s year-end promotion is live again – I’m not too sure what its official name really is, but here we are to earn some easy bonus miles.

You can check out the details here after logging in. Although it claims to be targeted, everyone whose account address isn’t in Hong Kong should be able to sign up successfully and it didn’t take long for my confirmation email to arrive.

There are many tasks to accomplish and I’m not going to paste all of them here. These are the first three ones:

• Registration reward: Upon registering for the promotion, members will receive a one-off USD10 Cathay Shop e-voucher.
• Goal 1: Members will receive a one-off bonus of 300 miles upon completing two eligible miles-earning or spending transactions.
• Goal 2: Members will receive a one-off bonus of 1,000 miles upon completing eligible miles-earning or spending transactions across two or more categories.

For simply registering for the offer you earn a voucher to use in their merchandise shop. As you can imagine $10 won’t go far though.

As far as I understand, almost all earning and spending activities are eligible except transactions on their e-shop portal. The easiest thing to do is probably point transfer, for example:

• 1,000 Amex points = 1,000 Cathay miles
• 1,000 Marriott points = 333 Cathay miles
• As these are two transactions from two categories, you earn 300+1000 bonus miles as well

Which means you end up with 2,633 miles which isn’t too shabby considering the “cost”. You can also earn more bonus if you are capable of earning or spending more miles.

Remember that there’s also an going offer for the Travel category, and you should be able to take advantage of both at the same time.
