After joining IHG, one of them became a Kimpton (<a href=\"..\/..\/..\/my-review-of-kimpton-charlotte-square-edinburgh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">which I reviewed here<\/a>), and the other converted into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/intercontinental-the-georgeil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">InterContinental the George<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hotel suffered massively from Covid, and has only re-opened very recently. There is a very interesting development though &#8211; the hotel has become &#8220;All Club&#8221; now, which means all hotel guests enjoy the <em>Club InterContinental<\/em> benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Searching on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ihg.com<\/a>, you can see that even the basic room type: Superior Room comes with Club InterContinental access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-superior-room.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-superior-room.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8730\" width=\"400\" height=\"103\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-superior-room.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-superior-room-300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-superior-room-768x197.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And what does Club InterContinental include? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihg.com\/intercontinental\/hotels\/gb\/en\/edinburgh\/edigs\/hoteldetail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">As suggested on their website<\/a>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Complimentary welcome drink on arrival<\/li><li>Sumptuous Breakfast<\/li><li>All day refreshments<\/li><li>Evening drinks and canap\u00e9s<\/li><li>Two complimentary items for pressing (per stay)<\/li><li>Complimentary local telephone calls<\/li><li>Complimentary WIFI<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is pretty much what you get when staying at an InterContinental hotel with club lounge benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the George, the only &#8220;All Club&#8221; InterContinental hotel is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihg.com\/intercontinental\/hotels\/gb\/en\/maamunagau-island\/mlemm\/hoteldetail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Maldives Maamunaga Resort<\/a>. I think it&#8217;s more natural for a resort in Maldives to offer an inclusive package for all guests, and quite surprised that a city hotel has followed suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand though, it&#8217;s good to see that luxury hotels are providing more &#8220;freebies&#8221; to their guests, instead of making everything payable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not only good news though. The hotel has decided to <strong>completely shut its award night availability<\/strong> by marking all rooms as <em>club<\/em>, i.e. non-standard. It makes no sense, since you can certainly redeem points at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihg.com\/intercontinental\/hotels\/gb\/en\/maamunagau-island\/mlemm\/hoteldetail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the InterContinental Maldives Maamunaga Resort<\/a> and I hope the hotel or IHG can rectify it soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-ambassador-weekend.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8732\" width=\"400\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-ambassador-weekend.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-ambassador-weekend-300x126.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/intercontinental-the-george-ambassador-weekend-768x324.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it appears that you can use your Ambassador weekend night certificate here, which isn&#8217;t a bad option.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There were two Principal Hotels in Edinburgh.
