It’s been a while since I last travelled, so I took advantage of a business trip to visit Krak\u00f3w, a city in Poland I’d never been to before. I also managed to squeeze in stays at two hotels, so let’s take a look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Krak\u00f3w is one of the more important tourist destinations in Central and Eastern Europe, and hotel rates are relatively reasonable, with plenty of good options to choose from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first three nights, I went with the Sheraton Grand Krakow<\/a>. The main reason was the location, although the hardware and facilities also looked pretty decent. The hotel is right next to Wawel Castle, one of the city’s major landmarks, and sits directly on the Vistula River, with lovely views.<\/p>\n\n\n

The most distinctive feature of the hotel is its huge atrium lobby. The building itself has a triangular layout, with the main restaurant sitting in the middle and sunlight pouring down through the skylight.<\/p>\n\n\n

It does get a little uncomfortable in summer, though. The entire space is constantly exposed to the sun, and despite being such a large area, the air conditioning doesn’t seem powerful enough. The lobby was noticeably warm throughout my stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another slightly odd design choice is that all the lifts are concentrated in just one corner of the building, so depending on where your room is, getting there can involve quite a walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had originally been upgraded to a Club Studio with a castle view, but the previous guest hadn’t checked out by the time I arrived. The front desk suggested moving down a category to a Deluxe River View Room instead. She actually showed me around the room, and it seemed perfectly fine, so I happily accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n

For a non-suite room, the size was pretty generous and definitely lived up to the “Grand” hotel name. It was clean and fresh, and the overall condition was still quite good.<\/p>\n\n\n
