Now that the recent tensions in the Middle East has made Europe &#8211; Asia flights more scarce, I&#8217;m feeling very lucky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I booked a Marriott hotel in Seoul, and today when I opened the app, I saw a push notification and discovered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/marriott-shinsegae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">an interesting partnership in South Korea with Shinsegae Duty Free<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Marriott Gold \u2192 Shinsegae <strong>Black <\/strong>tier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marriott Platinum and above \u2192 Shinsegae <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color\">VIP <\/mark><\/strong>tier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shinsegae Black and above \u2192 Marriott Silver<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Earn 2 Marriott points for every 1,000 KRW spent at Shinsegae (1,000-point monthly cap)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After going to Shinsegae\u2019s website, registering, and linking my Marriott account via the designated link, my Titanium status was instantly matched to VIP.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/marriott-shinsegae-vip-upgrade.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"231\" src=\"http:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/marriott-shinsegae-vip-upgrade.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26974\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/marriott-shinsegae-vip-upgrade.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/marriott-shinsegae-vip-upgrade-300x139.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Shinsegae has five membership tiers: Silver, Gold, Black, VIP, and S VIP. Gold seems quite easy to obtain through various promotional channels and offers a 15% discount. VIP, on the other hand, normally requires $16,000 in annual spending. In reality, it only adds two extra benefits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>20% discount<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to the VIP lounge on the 9th floor of the Myeongdong Shinsegae store (plus one guest)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For a status obtained for free,  I cannot complain about better discounts and lounge access for a bit of fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also two limited-time offers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spend $300 by the end of March to receive an extra 2,000 Marriott points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Claim six coupons (three online, three offline)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After claiming them, I realised the coupons are only valid until the end of the month, which is a bit annoying. Maybe I should\u2019ve waited until next month to claim them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shinsegae has stores in Myeongdong and at both terminals of Incheon Airport.
