The offer is aimed at British Airways elite members who reside in the UK or Europe:

BA Bronze can match to SAS Silver

BA Silver can match to SAS Silver or Gold

BA Gold can match to SAS Gold or Diamond

The fees are €39 / €79 / €159 for Silver, Gold and Diamond respectively.

Those who have previously matched to SAS are also eligible this time. Compared with the Finnair and airBaltic match, the advantage is that there is no challenge requirement, so you receive the upgraded status directly. The downside is that there is a fee involved (which is probably why the process goes through statusmatch.com), though in fairness the cost isn’t particularly high.

If you hold BA Silver or Gold, you can choose which tier to match to, though in most cases it makes sense to select the higher one. SAS Silver corresponds to SkyTeam Elite, which includes benefits such as priority check-in, priority boarding and additional checked baggage allowance. SAS Gold corresponds to SkyTeam Elite Plus, which adds benefits such as fast-track security and access to business class lounges. SkyTeam member airlines include Air France, KLM, Delta Air Lines, China Airlines, China Eastern, Korean Air and more.

SAS membership years are calculated based on your individual registration date. After a successful match, the status will be valid for the remainder of the current membership year plus the following year. On top of that, SAS traditionally offers soft landings, so in theory matching to Diamond could give you up to three years of SkyTeam Elite Plus status: quite a nice deal!

Last week I wrote about SAS’s status match promotion, which at the time was only open to elite members from Finnair and airBaltic.
