The position of Preferred Hotels & Resorts as an international brand is a bit awkward. On one hand, it has fairly strong visibility, with many luxury hotels under its umbrella, and plenty of them prominently display the brand at their entrances. On the other hand, its loyalty program is rather unremarkable, with few standout points or benefits. In the past, we mainly mentioned it in the context of Mastercard status upgrade<\/a> and its redemption partnership with Choice Hotels<\/a>, while paying relatively little attention to the I Prefer program itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, however, we discovered that its points redemptions – specifically the points-plus-cash options – can be exceptionally good value and are well worth a closer look. That\u2019s what we\u2019ll be covering today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reward Night Plus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The first option is the traditional points + cash redemption, which Preferred calls Reward Night Plus<\/a><\/em>. The structure is quite similar to Hilton and Marriott: if you don\u2019t want to redeem a full award night using points, you can pay a small number of points plus cash. Generally speaking, the cancellation policy mirrors that of award stays (i.e. flexible cancellation), and the cash portion of the stay still earns points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
