I’m in Paris again for a week, to watch the tennis tournament having redeemed Accor’s suite tickets. I’ve been to Paris quite a few times now so don’t have anything special planned. For accommodation I picked Holiday Inn Paris Gare de Lyon<\/a>, mainly due to its proximity to the stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m not an expert of the city, but I believe the location is slightly out of the way, as you will rely heavily on public transport for all the tourist sites. The transport links are excellent though, with train, metro and buses available from just around the corner. The neighbourhood feels extraordinarily quiet for a train station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I changed train twice from CDG to arrive at Gare de Lyon, and then it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the hotel. The building actually looks pretty nice if you ignore the odd Holiday Inn logo.<\/p>\n\n\n

The lobby has also got a nice touch, which doesn’t relate to the Holiday Inn brand at all to be honest.<\/p>\n\n\n

In order to hit the \u00a3300 target of my Amex offer I booked the Premium room category directly, so there’s no further upgrade available on the day.<\/p>\n\n\n

The room is simple and neat. I find their design of the head board and bedside table very clever and comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n

The quality of the room is probably on a par with, or even better than many Crowne Plazas in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I chose breakfast as the Diamond welcome amenity.<\/p>\n\n\n

The buffet is nothing to write home about, just pretty much what you can expect from an average four-star hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n

Holiday inn Paris Gare de Lyon does its job well as a mid-range city hotel, and it’s better than an average Holiday Inn. I also walked past the Courtyard which has a very funky look – my friend who stayed there spoke fairly highly of it, but their rate is also more expensive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
