The Avios family is growing and we wrote a guide on how best to redeem Avios<\/a> in different scenarios. Qatar Airways for example, has some sweet spots on short- and medium-haul flights<\/a> operated by Cathay Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to redeeming partner tickets, Qatar Airways has an interesting peculiarity – under some circumstances they let you book partner codeshare as if they were QR flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s an example for Doha – Tokyo, where a Japan Airlines option is present:<\/p>\n\n\n

It might be less obvious as Japan Airlines is a member of Oneworld anyway. Take Doha – Xiamen with Xiamen Airlines then, who’s from Skyteam and in theory you shouldn’t be able to redeem your Avios on them at all:<\/p>\n\n\n

There are also Guangzhou (China Southern) and Jakarta (Garuda Indonesia), maybe more. You must be flying from, to or via Doha and the pricing is identical to that of QR’s own metal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although not necessarily a huge bargain, it is a new way to use your Avios on more (non-Oneworld) airlines online. Note that the ticket is actually QR-coded and there might be complications regarding lounge access – one reader booked a JL-operated flight this way recently and was denied lounge access at Doha.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
