My annual free night voucher from the Chase IHG card was expiring, and after some research I decided to plan a trip to Copenhagen, since I’d never been to Denmark yet. I booked my first night at the Crowne Plaza<\/a>, topping up an additional 6,000 point. The rate skyrocketed afterwards to more than 80,000 points, not sure if it had anything to do with IHG’s system-wide devaluation at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hotel is remote but accessible. I chose to spend my first night here due to its proximity to the airport – by train it’s 8 minutes to the airport or 15 minutes to the city centre. The frequency is low late into the night though. I recommend you download the DOT Tickets app to buy public transport tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although quite close the train \/ metro \/ bus station, the land feels like a deserted industrial park, and it’s a 10-minute walk to the relatively inhabited area. The building is called “Copenhagen Tower” however, and quite tall, so I guess it’s famous-ish.<\/p>\n\n\n

It’s actually two buildings in the same development – the North building is an office building occupied by a few companies including Ericsson. The South building is where the hotel is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main distinguishable feature of the hotel (building) is its lobby, where you have an immersive experience in an artificial rain forest. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see this in say Singapore, but it is quite unusual and a bit strange in Denmark!<\/p>\n\n\n

There’s a mixture of hotel and corporate facilities in the lobby. When I walked by at lunch time a lot of people were swiping into the canteen.<\/p>\n\n\n

I remember reading about the hotel’s generosity long time ago, and it’s true – I received an email notification of 600 welcome points before I even arrived! I was also upgraded to a high-floor club room, inclusive of club lounge access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s uncommon for IHG hotels to give away club benefits nowadays unless you have the annual lounge pass. I’ve only come across it once so far at InterContinental Medellin<\/a>. I will however get the lounge pass soon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also spotted an ad at the front desk: sign up as an IHG member to earn 5,000 bonus points and immediate Silver status.<\/p>\n\n\n

The hotel has 25 levels and my room is at level 18. Club rooms are larger in size (33sqm v.s. 28 sqm), but furnishing is probably the same.<\/p>\n\n\n

The room is slightly underwhelming, fine for a Holiday Inn but too mediocre for a Crowne Plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n

Gym is shared by the two buildings and has no access control. You simply enter it through the cafe on the ground floor. There’s no swimming pool.<\/p>\n\n\n
